Community Development

The Community Development Network (CDN)

The Parkari Project reaches around 40,000 Parkaris living across 297 villages.

Because of its size, the project is divided into 11 so-called clusters. Each cluster consists of approximately 25 villages and is led by a trained leader. These cluster leaders form the heart of the network.

What does a Cluster Leader (CL) do?

Each Cluster Leader (CL) visits the villages in their cluster once a month, often together with their spouse. They support village leaders, assist with the training of teachers and healthcare workers, and help establish savings systems.

The CL also often acts as a mediator between the village and the government, for example by helping people obtain birth certificates or identity documents.

Financial Situation

Due to the sudden withdrawal of financial support, many Cluster Leaders have not received any financial compensation for their work since 2023. As a result, it has become increasingly difficult to keep the CDN running.

Although the network remains active and the Cluster Leaders continue to carry out their work, financial support from outside the communities would be greatly appreciated.

Our Support

To ensure that this important work can continue, Parkari Project Netherlands-Belgium has decided that all donations from the Benelux countries will go towards supporting the five Cluster Leaders who are most in need of financial assistance.

We will regularly report on the progress and impact of their work.
